Phthursday Musings: Nine

53 1/2"

9 today.

This fall he’s on two soccer teams, his “normal” team with a dad-coach (yours truly), and an “extra” team, which is a little more competitive, and has an actual soccer coach. This means two practices a week, a game on Friday night, a game on Saturday morning.

He’s in third grade, and the early returns are really good. Last year he’d tend to be grumpy when he got home and this year he’s not. A lot of things have changed in the school environment (new teachers new principal new classrooms) and the sum total of it all seems to be really positive for him, and for his classmates, from what I hear.

He’s mostly moved on from Minecraft to Roblox.

He’s really happy to have Stewie, even though most days, he’s in bed before Stewie emerges. Tonight was an exception though:

Tonight he was up later because we took him to the Sox game. Oh, let’s not talk about the Sox game. Good gravy, let’s not talk about this series. Jeepers no.

As crazy as the surrounding world can sometimes seem - and, well, is - it feels like we’ve actually fostered a shockingly normal and positive environment, one where he will have ample opportunity to thrive as he continues to grow up, up, up.

He’s happy and healthy.

We’ve done good.
